Half the population claims they aren’t emotional and the other half just knows they’re emotional. Truth is, we are all emotional creatures, we just have different ways of expressing how we feel, what we are thinking or showing the world how we are effected. Some of us react and others stuff. Some of us like to make a scene and others like to do it in private.
I’m not sure when it became cool to be “unaffected and emotionless”. I certainly feel into that category years ago, until a very wise Naturopathic Doctor pointed out how it was leading to physical problems (stomach issues, constipation, head aches, muscle fatigue, joint pains, irritability, ect). Now, whenever I’m affected, i take a deep breath, let the emotions be expressed in an adult manner (or excuse myself for a sometimes needed temper tantrum or break down) and I’m good! And so are the people around me. Because I communicated my emotional stress, I released my emotional stress and I let it go. First you have to let go to truly move on. And when you move on- you get to expereince newness, greatness, the gifts of life!
Unfortunately, Caucasian culture tends to be more suppressive than other cultures- asking us to judge, hide, control our feelings with pharmaceutical intervention or our rational and logical thinking. As a result, we are rarely aware of how we truly feel.
I read a book once by Richard Carlson, You Can Be Happy No Matter What. He talked about hoe emotions were your guide. They are your internal compass telling you when something is right, wrong, bad, scary and more…Just FOR YOU!
