When I was a student in the National College of Natural Medicine primary clinic, we often would begin treating depression and anxiety with high doses of Vitamin D. Of course we would asses the patients diet, consider adding in vitamins and minerals in addition to any necessary amino acids, but living in Portland, Oregon, the sun rarely shined and most patients vitamin D levels were outrageously low. Low vitamin D can play a huge role in seasonal depression, low immune health and muscles aches and pains.
Two years into practicing at NCNM, one of our head physicians menti0ned another possibility. Check out this video! It is on MTHFR; a gene that can determine your mood. And we test for it right here in our clinic @ Life In Motion, Naturopathic Medical Care.
